On May 19, Handoks’ (CEO Youngjin Kim) Eumseong
plant received a certification for “5 Times Zero Hazard” by the Korea
Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). Since starting its “5 Times Zero
Hazard” campaign in April 2010, not a single case of workplace accident was
recorded at the Handok Eumseong plant for seven years (2,480 working days),
thus receiving the “Zero Hazard” certification.

The Handok Eumseong plant is doing its
utmost to maintain a safe working environment. The plant established the
Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OSHAS18001, KOSHA18001) in
2014, and is making continuous investments into reducing harmful substances and
enhancing on site facilities. Furthermore, a company-union joint inspection led
by the plant’s general manager and union leader is carried out every month to
investigate and evaluate ‘close calls (accidents that almost happened)’ and
make safety suggestions to implement over 200 safety enhancements every year.

Additionally, the Handok Eumseong plant
held an internal event to commemorate the “5 Times Zero Hazard” achievement and
encourage a workplace safety culture. All the plant’s employees wrote a pledge
to play their parts in maintaining a zero-hazard working environment,
participated in quiz events to test their knowledge on safety, and held a photo
exhibition.
