Handok Inc. sponsors ‘Memory Cafe’ as part of its dementia prevention campaign with Seoul City
Handok Inc. plans to conduct a Memory Café campaign with Seoul Metropolitan City (Mayor, Park Won-soon) from June 20th in an effort to realize a dementia-free Seoul City. The Memory Café is a mobile café in which elderly people diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia participate as baristas. Together with Dementia Centers of the 25 Districts of Seoul, the company plans to visit every region of Seoul to deliver correct information about dementia and improve negative perceptions of dementia patients.
In the Memory Café you may get a drink that is not what you ordered but handle it according to the basic rule of natural understanding. This raises people’s understanding of dementia and sends a message that a dementia patient can still function as a productive member of society. Along with each district’s dementia centers in Seoul, the company conducts mobile Memory Cafés along with dementia counseling and OX quiz events on prevention of dementia. You can check out the location and time of the Memory Café at the Memory Café homepage (http://memorycafe.kr / http://기억다방.kr). The mobile Memory Café is used as a dementia prevention activity throughout the year with the Seoul Metropolitan Dementia Center.
The Memory Café launch event was held on June 20 in front of Seoul City Hall with about 300 participants along with the Memory Day event run by the dementia centers of the 25 districts of Seoul. At the event, Mr. Na Baek-ju, Director of Seoul Citizen’s Health Bureau, and Mr. Kim Chul-joon, CEO of Handok Inc., attended and showed a performance of tightening a large memory pocket that contains capsules of memories that seniors wish to keep.
