Handok invests in an additional 9 billion won in NSB
POSTECH, a bio-chip specialized company

  • Handok and NSB POSTECH to accelerate the development of
    innovative in-vitro diagnostic devices that target global market

  • The additional investment, following a previous thousand
    million won investment in 2010 will mark the figure of total investment to be
    ten billion won. 

On August 14th, Handok formed an agreement for
an investment of a total of 9 billion won in a bio-chip specialized company NSB
POSTECH, which is the first subsidiary company of POSTECH technology holdings company.

According to this agreement, Handok will invest in 7.5
billion won as the primary investment, which will be followed by a secondary
investment of additional 1.5 billion won. Handok has previously invested in a
thousand million won in 2010, making the total amount of investment 10 billion
won. Through this agreement, Handok and NSB POSTECH will expand their
partnership to accelerate the development of innovative in-vitro diagnostic devices
that target global market.

President Youngjin Kim of Handok mentioned that “innovative
diagnostic technique that NSB POSTECH possesses will hopefully create a
synergistic effect when combined with Handok’s experience of years in the
medical appliances field. We hope to strengthen our business portfolio by
development of innovative in-vitro diagnostic appliances and strategically
target global market in turn.”

NSB POSTECH, which was founded in 2008 with research
funds by POSCO and investment by POSTECH, is an innovative bio venture company
that aims to be a global diagnostic specialist company. NSB POSTECH has its
technological prowess acknowledged, winning the Prime Minister award at Korea
Patent Technology Exhibition in 2001 for their surface coating technologies and
the Director of Patent Office award at the top 10 university technology
transfer in 2009. Currently, the company holds 24 patents in 11 countries,
including the United States. NSB POSTECH will ensure steady product supply to
diagnostic companies within Korea and abroad, as well as actively developing
new technologies in partnership with other outstanding companies overseas.
