– Media artist Seokjoon Ha, who often works with human body, puts together
modern art pieces and historical medicinal and pharmaceutical artifacts

– A variety of media art pieces that combine art and cutting edge
technology are on display, such as HD TV and 3D printers 

Handok museum of medicine and pharmacy
(Director Kyungrok Lee) is the very first museum dedicated to pharmacy and
medicine that’s also a corporate museum. A special exhibition, exhibition by media artist ‘Seokjoon Ha’
is to be held in Life gallery of this museum until 31^st of January,
next year.

At this exhibition, a variety of media art pieces by Seokjoon Ha
will be available that use the human body as a material. Also, ‘Dong In Do’
from Chosun dynasty will also be on display, an artifact which was used to
indicate acupuncture points on human body. The exhibit will provide a valuable
opportunity to view modern art pieces that use the human body as a material as
well as historical medicinal and pharmaceutical artifacts.

Artist Seokjoon Ha has a rather
interesting background, with experiences as a marketer for Samsung Electronics.
He is currently receiving attention for his art which combines cutting edge
technology, such as HD TV and 3D printer with art. He had also received a
variety of awards including a grand prize for Monthly Public Art’s in 2015, the best prize for 2015 Asyaaf’s and
being selected for Siggraph Asia’s <2015 Art Gallery>.

This exhibition includes a display of
art pieces such as which combines
multimedia and the human body, which
expresses Venus, the goddess of beauty with 3D printer and other interesting
artwork. The main piece which
represents the gallery is an interactive piece of artwork where two large
screen TVs are hanging from a person. A sensor attached to it rearranges and
displays the audiences in front as pixels and lines on TV. Artist Seokjoon Ha
had specially designed the shape of pixels as tablets of Festal so movements of
audiences can be viewed as congregates of individual festal tablets.

Foundation which manages Handok museum of medicine and pharmacy mentioned that “The
human body has been a subject of art, medicine and pharmacy for a long time. I
hope this exhibition can provide an opportunity for audiences to appreciate
modern art pieces and medical and pharmaceutical artifacts that use the human
body as a material to think once again about the value of life”.

Handok museum of medicine and pharmacy,
located in Eumseong, Chungcheongbuk-do is the first
corporate museum dedicated for medicine and pharmacy. Built in 1964, the museum
possesses 15,000 pieces of medicinal and pharmaceutical artifacts from east and
west, including 6 national treasures. There is a variety of programs which
allow the audiences to experience medicine and pharmacy, such as a session with
the curator and making my own stomach remedy. Recently, Handok museum of medicine and pharmacy underwent a renovation to apply
cutting edge IT technologies such as NFC (Near Field Communication), Beacon
service and augmented reality simulation as well as opening a new gallery, the
Life gallery. Life gallery, a ‘museum inside a museum’, has its purpose in
allowing the audience to appreciate modern art which express birth, old age,
sickness, and death of humans as well as artifacts of medicine and pharmacy
from the past. In the past, the photographer Bonchang Goo and sculptor Sooang
Choi have held exhibit and Euijeong Yoo,
a modern artist had held . Life gallery
will continue to hold exhibits that will impress the audience.
